QuadReal.
Community impact.

Viva Media helped QuadReal turn its community initiatives into a lead film and focused stories. Interviews with employees and community partners gave its communications team a way to explain the work through the people doing it.

Give a broad story a clear focus.

QuadReal’s community work spans employee volunteering, local partnerships and the way it operates its properties. Its communications team needed a concise film that could explain those connections to employees, partners and clients.

We recommended developing the individual stories first, then drawing them together in a short lead film. Each topic could have its own audience and enough room to explain the work, without asking one video to cover every detail.

Let the people doing the work explain it.

We developed interview questions around specific experiences: a community program, a partnership, a decision about a space. Employees and community partners could speak from their own experience, with each perspective contributing a different part of the story.

Make room for the partner’s perspective.

Questions for organisations such as BC Parks Foundation and Family Services of the North Shore explored what the relationship made possible for their work. Their perspective gave the films a view from outside QuadReal.

Keep the edit centred on the interview.

We reviewed the recorded conversations to select concise answers and shape each narrative. Location footage, client-supplied material and archive footage gave the interviews context. Music supported the pace without overpowering the voices.

Build a series from the same production.

We filmed interviews in Toronto and Vancouver, then developed the lead film and topic-led edits from that shared footage. The communications team could introduce the overall community story or focus on a subject such as partnerships, culture, operations or sustainability.

Delivery included clean versions, caption files and versions with captions on screen. The lead film is featured on QuadReal’s social responsibility page; related community stories are also published on its own channels.
